Overview
This Link Type will allow you to open a destination URL when clicking the item where this Link type has been set (e.g. Menu Item in DiviMenus).
This is probably the most commonly used option when comes to links, buttons and menus.
Next, we will guide you through all the steps to use this Link Type. It’s very straightforward!
Opening a destination URL
To start off, you have to select the URL option from the Link Type dropdown.
If you are using the either the DiviMenus or the DiviMenus Flex module you must first enter the Menu Item where the URL will be set and open the Link module toggle.
Once you have selected the URL Link type option for an item, you only have to enter the destination URL.
That’s it! You have set a link to the Menu Item and you can now open a destination URL when clicking on it!
Optionally, you can choose if the URL should be opened in another tab. Also, you may want the item to be active when the URL set matches with the current page URL.
Finally, you can set a rel attribute (search engines can use this attribute to get more information about the link).
Content > Link > URL
Here you can enter the destination URL that the item will open.
Please use the Dynamic Content option if entering an URL from your website. This way, any changes in the URL won’t affect this Link Type (i.e. you won’t need to come back here to update the URL to the new one).
Also, using the Dynamic Content option is highly recommended when enabling the Enable Active State field to ensure the item activation.
Content > Link > URL Opens
Here you can choose whether the URL should be opened in the same browser tab or not.
Content > Link > Enable Active State
If this toggle field is enabled, the item will become active (their hover styles will be applied) when the current page URL includes the URL that has been entered in the URL field.
For example, if we enter example.com/services/ (by using the Dynamic Content Option > Page Link > Services), the item would be active in these pages:
example.com/services/
example.com/services/service-1/
example.com/services/service-2/
This field is also useful when creating anchor links, as the item’s active state will change on page scroll.
Advanced > Attributes > Link Relationship
Here you can specify the relationship between the current document (post / page) and the linked document (destination URL).
